Amirabdollahian wrote on his Instagram account on Thursday that he had a phone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein when he thanked for the Iraqi minister’s efforts to pave the way for release of an Iranian national from custody in Saudi Arabia.
Iranian Hajj pilgrim Khalil Dardmand, who was along with his mother in Saudi Arabia to carry out Hajj rituals, was arrested due to taking picture in front of Kaaba while showing a photo of Iranian Lieutenant General Martyr Qassem Soleimani.
After freedom, Dardmand flied to Tehran via airspace of one of neighboring countries on October 3, where he was warmly welcomed by the Iranian authorities, including officials from the Office of the Supreme Leader, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.
According to Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, foreign ministers of Iraq and Oman assisted to pave the ground for the Hajj pilgrim’s freedom.
During the phone call, the Iraqi and Iranian foreign ministers also discussed issues of mutual interests, in particular the recent provocations, which have happened in Iraq's Kurdistan region, against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian minister also wrote that he told his Iraqi counterpart that after four decades and despite several promises by authorities of the Iraqi Kurdish region, armed terrorist groups keep on threatening Iran’s security from inside the region.
Although, the Islamic Republic respects and pursues development of ties with Iraq, as the Iranian authorities have reiterated, the continuation of incursions and terrorist acts by the terror groups, who have found safe haven inside the Iraqi Kurdish region and targeted Iran’s national security, is not acceptable and tolerable.
